Tumen Ail Energy LLC is implementing a 100 MW thermal power plant project based on the coal reserves of the Bayanshand mine, with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of Mongolia’s energy sector. At a time when national electricity demand is continuously increasing, this project holds strategic importance by helping reduce the power generation deficit in the central region and ensuring a reliable energy supply for the Gobi and southeastern regions.
Project Rationale
The Bayanshand coal deposit provides a reliable and sustainable resource base for power generation.
Electricity consumption in Mongolia is increasing year by year, creating a clear need for new energy generation sources.
There is an urgent requirement to reduce seasonal and peak-load shortages within the Central Power System.
The Gobi and southeastern regions are rapidly developing industrial and mining hubs, making a stable and dependable energy source essential.
Project Objectives
Construct a modern 100 MW thermal power plant utilizing the reserves of the Bayanshand coal mine;
Enhance the efficiency and operational reliability of the Central Power System;
Stabilize the energy supply for the Gobi and southeastern regions and support the development of mining and industrial projects;
Reduce Mongolia’s dependence on imported electricity by increasing domestic power generation and contributing to import substitution.
Expected Outcomes
Stable production and supply of 100 MW of electricity to the central grid each year;
Creation of new jobs and development of supporting infrastructure that contributes to regional growth;
Increased value of mining products and more efficient utilization of coal reserves;
Improved stability and reliability of the national power system, reducing the risks of outages and supply disruptions.
